Jaipur: Although Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodhaa Akbar is one of the much anticipated releases of 2008, it still is courting it's fair share of controversy, this time over its historical facts. The question now being raised is should the film be called Jodhaa Akbar or should it be called Jodhaa Jehangir . As history professor R S Khangarot says, "Jodhaa was married to Salim not Akbar." It is not only the historians who are troubled by the historical inaccuracies and anachronisms. The Rajput community is also fuming over the historicity of the film. Ajit Singh Mamdoli, State President, Shri Rajput Karni Sena, Jaipur "Historical facts are being distorted and presented in the movie. The truth is that Jodhaa Bai was Akbar's daughter-in-law, his son Salim's wife, while in this movie they've been shown as man and wife and lovers," said the state president of the Shri Rajput Karni Sena, Ajit Singh Mamdoli. "This is an insult to Rajput history and culture and we will not tolerate this at any cost. We'll not let this movie run in Rajasthan no matter what it takes," he asserted. Despite that, the film has the approval of Jaipur's royalty. "He has done (it) as accurately as possible and that's why we supported him, not with any other angle," said Maharani Padmini Devi. "If there was something objectionable, we would have been the first people to object," she added. Director Ashutosh Gowarikar, however, does not seem ruffled by the controversy and has claimed that he has "done his homework". While his team of stars is leaving no stones unturned to promote the film, nothing can give it as much publicity as a good dose of controversy.
